Poems »

As an African male, I was taught to suppress my emotions and 'man up' in the face of adversity. But the loss of my mother to illness shattered me, leaving me searching for a way to express the anguish that threatened to consume me. During this time, I found solace in the power of words. Poetry became my refuge, confessional, and catharsis, even amidst academic pressures. Through verse, I began to process my trauma, pain, and resilience. My poems reflect my personal grief, plead for healing, and celebrate the human spirit's unyielding resilience. They also honor the silenced voices of the marginalized and forgotten. As a male, I was socialized to believe vulnerability is a weakness, but my poetry reveals the strength in vulnerability. I hope my words will be a gentle embrace for those who have been broken. Sincerely , O.O Isaac
