The Choice

Upon the open deck I sang
Never before such a sweet melody
It moved and swayed with the wind
That is such; I will never forget

With juvenile wants
I do move on
As anyone else would not care
To hear my sad song

Yet the birds echo
That which I sing
And the trees shake
At the mention of my melody

I look in the water
As it waves around my voice
And yet I care to not
Stay too long

As I peer closer past those haunting waves
I see my image as clear as day
And it reflected back
For it spoke to me

The words came as a spray; without fear they say:
“I am the illusion of something great.”
It seems to me
This is the road I did not take
