First Draft Afternoon II

The reds and browns of autumn's dying leaves
 Show through church windows with their stained glass
 I look at my brothers lifeless body
 The corners of his mouth formed to a smile

 I expect him to jump with a laugh
 Rapping his knuckles on my skull
 Saying come on squirt lets go play some ball...
 You'll get sixty points play to a hundred

 I recall the days out on the lake
 Sitting in his rowboat while he would row
 Always his rear to wind sometimes he'd pull
 Other days he would then push the oars

 Like green leaves in the summer fade to red
 Fall came too soon for this life filled red head
