Fiftieth Day on Mars
Screw the protocols on this mission,
bet you are not losing sleep
over our precarious position.
Screw you all down there on my former Earth planet,
take your stupid programs and shove it,
Clare hasn't spoken to me for a week,
batteries aren't flat but look to be weak,
Up the creek..
but there is none and the water is almost out.
At this point I'm beginning to doubt
that we both made the right decision
I'm holding a knife,
prepared to make a fatal incision.
We have lost contact with Earth control
blocked toilet is taking its toll,
on me and especially Clare,
who sits around,
all she does is stare.
I've gone over the fine print looking for a loophole
or something I can bank on but it is obvious
that flag we put up the pole
declaring Mars is ours is like getting
for Christmas a lump of coal.
Worthless crap ; while you enjoy yourselves on Earth
spending money we made you ; well…..
Hang on ; I can see a supermarket down that ridge,
Clare saw it before me,
has run out there and is crossing a bridge.
It is fading, or am I too far away,
I'm signing off, going to get me a barbecue chicken,
over and out ; this promises to be an exciting day.
