A Tender Poet
As time whips her last sunset with smiles;
gentle lips and teeth as white as wild suns,
I capture serenity in each breath
released with songs of wonderful beauty,
today is my last, reality's wink,
people watch the sky slip down towards earth.
There is no fear, only calm acceptance,
in the streets are parties full of power,
but I sit here listening to the beat
of civilisation's peppered demise,
all the wisdom of humanity's age
is caught in daisy chains around warm minds.
Tomorrow's wings are delicately soothed
while yesterday's distant memory weeps,
and I capture this life in slow-motion
with the gnarled hands of a tender poet,
perhaps the day will last in history,
the pages of a universe that bleeds.
