Wedding Wobbles
• Wedding Wobbles
I’m 89 and feeling fine ‘cause memories keep me young.
It started on my wedding day, while Songs of Praise were sung.
A reverent silence followed ‘til a guttural croak rang out.
A bridesmaid, sick, had heaved her lunch1 (My mother whisked her out.)
We’d planned our wedding photos where we’d booked our bridal meal.
(Poses mid the roses couldn’t fail to be ideal)
Alas! That dream was shattered when we drove up to the scene.
With roses gone, a parking lot replaced the garden green.
Our cameraman rushed out to find somewhere to take the pics.,
-Then had the bridal party walk the highway to his ‘fix.’
A total stranger neighbor had agreed to let us use,
The lawn outside her lovely home. (We’d nothing left to lose!)
Wedding wobbles followed us throughput the Big Event,
‘Til Ireland, where our happy honeymoon was later spent.
Since then, I’ve had the knack of turning wobbles into whimsy,
Which comes in handy when my aging brain feels rather flimsy.

About this poem
Although I was married in England in 1953, the details /mishaps / wobbles have been etched in my memory ever since. All absolutely true. Word count doesn’t allow me to describe them all, so I will limit them to the first two.
