Broken Wing of a Ladybug

Decked in a red polka dot dress, struggling to dance,
The ladybug knows not what to do
For kisses on the forehead, the ladybug awaits,
For an embrace never to come

Hibernating in the bark of a tree as the night encroaches, laid out in fear,
Awaiting the return of a helping hand,
No where near

Ladybug with a broken wing still struggling to fly …

No stirring until touched, she knows not when it will abate
Do ladybugs dream of grassy gardens
Or fear—grasping for answers,
The elusive understanding
keeps the broken wing inside

The bird of prey forces her into a fire where flames can never be put out
Thoughts destroy her from inside out but silence kills her more

Ladybug with a broken wing still struggling to fly …

Pretend you can fly ladybug, let the broken wing take you far,
Look for the sparkling eyes reflecting warmth and care
Leave thoughts of hope and despair—
Look for the light

Let honey heal you and keep you between the seasons,
Be a colorful symbol of change and reason

Ladybug with a broken wing still struggling to fly …

Dancing under the sun, warmth on her back, waiting for spring,
Ladybug looks like she can fly—
Black clouds consume her with flashes of a time gone by
Unable to admit the truth, her wing can’t fly

Ladybug with a broken wing still struggling to fly …

Heal ladybug, heal — as only you can,
Sit still and nurse the wing,
Wipe away the cobwebs,
Silence the frog and the wasp

Hold your breathe, no need to fear,
It’s only a short while
The yarrow and cosmos will dance with you as the geraniums spread healing—
Show them your colors

Ladybug with a broken wing can fly …

I wish this poem never had to be written. It was one of my pinned poems for the April contest. I hope that the writing of poetry helps bring healing.
