HERE COMES THE SEASON

Ishak Alhassan 1990 (Kurgwi, Plateau State.)

HERE COMES THE SEASON

Here comes the season.

Here comes the season when see them anew.

Cajoling and seeking for our votes not our view.

Holding clandestine meeting like a nocturnal shrew.

In the raindrops or in an overwhelming dew.

Canvassing for majority votes not those of few.

With them banal gifs of less important they strew.

Holding onto false promises as supporting factors or a sinew.

To workers and labourers, increase in the certain amount of their screw.

They seem oblivious of the promises they made while they threw.

Now, while traversing the country not minding to bedew.

Here comes the season.

Here comes the season when we see them flourish.

After the voting, they seem indolent and sluggish.

Reverting to their old tactics which is to loot and to demolish.

Our commonwealth, and force millions to perish.

Under the grip of unnatural penury without a single dish.

Here comes the season.

Here comes the season when we see them anew.

About this poem

It talks about politics and politicians who abandoned their constituents after election. They would never return until when election season comes over again with false promises.
