Dead Silence
Hunter Aydelott 1960 (Tennessee)
jolted into reality waving franticly
from the rooftop of your house
floating down the flooding river
twisters' green skies run for cover
sirens daily warning duck
undergrounds bunker scramble
fire scars breech unknown heat limits
deaths wave blowing fanning forward
devastated landscape souls roasted alive
African dust settles fast
mixing with the fresh fire's ash
choking coughs defining moment
bleaching schools and coral reefs
underwater heatwaves blob stretches
setting heavy weather's stage so easily
hurricanes laughter sinister indeed
blended with an elongated nino season
punishing coast-lines boundaries reason
while oil executives gobbling up subsidies giggle
laughing at squandered deals getting away with it
shutting up dirty old congressmen inside traitors
knowing the long-held secret
global warmings eventual fate
insect's sacrifical dissemination
after the bees then the birds
then the grass then the trees
dustbowls memory wandering blind hacking
islands fate submerged into underwater cities
dead bodies in fishbowl's newfound castle
washed up on shorelines blood trauma
posturing and pointing bankers plead
toxic handouts stealing a farmer's needs
health care's failures running joke
weathervanes spinning in plastic rain
exposing futilities downward spiral entering
dead silence dead set on destruction
farmland underwater contracts expire
swept away in the great midwestern flood
rampant homelessness wondering aimlessly
hot dirty smiles rotting eyes and minds
stretched beyond medics sweltering reach
tropical heat roasting at mountain tops peak
doubting weathermen chastized the nerve
climate change realizations blocked unheard
meanwhile twisters smile standing at your door
jokers are the leaders and leaders jokers
poker jokers hiding the oil money cards payout
holding then doing absolutely nothing but folding
About this poem
I found the fact that the media won't discuss or even use the term global warming or climate change in reporting is just mind-boggling. Husker Du, "Dead Set On Destruction"
