Tree of Life

I’ve heard it said that tree is life.
It breathes and expires as we do,
giving us our food and our homes.

From what I’ve tasted of this life,
I’ve not seen care enough for tree,
only wonting greedy desires.

I hold with those who treasure boughs,
that shoulder us from life’s rough sword
providing us with leafy sward.

I’ve heard it said that tree means ‘oak,’
a symbol of truth and strength,
as well as for fertility.

So why do we not care enough
and protect tree from destruction,
misuse, and wonting desires?

I’ve seen the barrenness of land
stripped bare of every strand of life.
No longer now is tree our life!

And… without tree – we have no life!
