Another Day

Another day I rise from my bed
trying to wrap around my head
the battles that I've fought
and lost in vain.
Pretending when in pain
to keep from going insane.
Noone can see my heart,
encapsulated in this tomb of bones,
just begging to be free
from this crippling disease
that has imprisoned me.
The world keeps passing by.
I sit alone wondering why
and then I cry!
Wish I could be myself again.
Wish I could stand up straight and bend
just for today anyway
maybe the pain will fade away.
So quietly I sit and pray.
Tomorrow is another day!

About this poem

This poem is a snapshot of a day in the life of someone with an autoimmune disease and the pain and isolation they may feel. It is inspired by my own struggles with Ankylosing Spondylitis.
