Waiting for...

Vicki J Vogt 1953 (Washinton, D.C.)

I’ve been waiting for you
Have you climbed the mountain yet?
Do you see the stars?
Over here, the stars throw pebbles in the river
searching for new stars.
Over there is a caterpillar forest,
the ground soft and spongy--
waiting for your dreams,
but the Venus flytrap gets the fly.
The darkness here keeps searching
for the light, which never comes on time.
Is it dark where you are?
I am made of stone, wood, peonies,
spider webs.
You are made of lightning, tears, planets.
I’ve been waiting for you.
