Weeping Willow

We were two vast oceans that collided
I brought you up and you kept me grounded
You protected me as if I were a flower that survived through winter
And I protected you like that barbed wire fence protected my hands from getting splinters
I tried to stay and see where it would go
I tried to love your scars and pain and drown your sorrows
I was being weighed down, when gravity isn’t what I needed it was growth.

You love like a thunderstorm
I still hear the stomps in my head
From the thunder that you persisted to make me feel
And the lightning that coursed through this body before it became bones.
I wish mom would’ve warned me of the love men like you give.
You take my mile
While you only give an inch
You took the pain away, just to wait for a better time to give it to me anyway
I remember holding my head at your lap and begging you to make the throbbing stop
You laughed and said I was crazy
And then you took the pain away in a drop

Not in the drop of a nickel
But the drop of a bomb
That was intended to wipe out this whole universe
And I couldn’t see the intent behind your smile
And your golden eyes
I should’ve known better than to be a fool for somebody like you
But you only made me stronger and taught me that I could survive if I was thrown out on my own
I’ve walked miles and shedded skin, blood, sweat and tears
To prove to you that I’m not as soft as everyone tried to make me seem
They tried to weave me into their quilt of deceit
And when I wouldn’t weave,
They forgot about me and threw me out to the sea
But they didn’t realize that I knew what I had to do stay afloat
And when I swung my leg over that boat,
They then launched a rocket under me to take me to the moon
They would’ve tried anything
But they realized very soon,
That my adaptability was unlike what they’ve ever seen
My body turned into a parachute and I landed in the woods for the second time
That was after I was forced to wreck my car into the graveyard
They bet I wouldn’t do it,
They were taking bets on how far they were gonna let it go.
So that second time, poured so much anger into my soul
I was yelling at the noises of nature
And shaking the earth with my cries
All I remember was I tried and tried and tried
To find a way over that barb wire fence

I thought I wasn’t made to endure the heat
I thought I wasn’t made to walk the Forrest’s with no shoes on my feet
I thought I wasn’t as tough as I was made to be
I watered down my logic and muted my voice
So that I could walk untargeted and blending in with most
I’m a lone wolf in this jungle
Got the heart of a lion
And the wisdom of an owl
I was made to be thrown a gun
And not think twice about looking down that barrel
In order to live you must die
But they don’t tell you that in the playbooks
You are a mystic amongst the finest witches
And you will remain that wild card
You learned to alchemize your scars
And when your thrown out to the lions
Make sure you walk out of there with proof showing that you are a force to be reckoned with
Your kind and my kind go hand in hand
And it’s the ecstasy you gave my soul
That I now realized is what made me weak
I loved the feeling of your hands running throwing my hair at night
But I don’t miss waking up and heaping over in pain
Or sick to my stomach
Because my powers are what you gained
I no longer am letting anybody be a vacuum of my soul
I’m sorry that I’m stronger than you
But I promise that was never my goal
My ancestors got the strength of any army sent to destroy me
So next time, you spark a fire in somebody’s soul
Remember my name as you lay your head on your pillow
And Bury the memory of me underneath a weeping willow

About this poem

It’s about not being accepted and thrown out. It’s about your soul being lit on fire and heartbreak. And it’s about overcoming obstacles you were never meant to.
