To sit beside it

It was something beautiful
And we made it so ourselves
And you, my sweet boy, felt compelled to leave
So I am compelled to sit beside it and grieve
And the carcass has moments of movement.
Twitches and minute breaths
And I can’t leave it’s side for
Battered and bruised as it is
It resembles us
Even in near death
