The Image in the mirror

Gail Walton May 1955 (Ft Campbell Ky)

The Image in the Mirror

Once the surgery is over and the healing begins, once the skin is no  longer black and blue , you finally get the courage to look in the mirror at the image that is looking back at you.

Not really prepared for what you might see or how you’ll react when you do,
you second guess  and turn away preferring someone to be in the room with you.

Now that you have your support you can’t put if off much longer you tell yourself you got this , it will only make you stronger.

Yet nothing prepared you for the image you see of a long thick scar where your breast used to be.

You stare for what seems like forever although it’s only been a minute or two. tears stain your face as you try to embrace the image in the mirror that stares back at you.

For a moment you think this is the end when in all actuality this is where it begins.
You are NOT defined by the scars , the loss of hair or the burnt skin

You are more than A Conqueror, you are resilient, you are strong , you have a new lease on life and it couldn’t be any clearer
You are the beautiful image in the mirror.
