To the Deep

Feet dragging and led arms moving against an outgoing tide.
Pulled out to sea, sinking to the deep.
Too much noise on the beach.
In the deep, I can hear them sing.
The whales, they sing, and I can hear them.
They'd been singing all along.
Distant melodies we can't hear on the beach.
Forced deep.

About this poem

The day can be full of overwhelming noise and it can be difficult to hear yourself and recognize your thoughts, but at the end of the day the noise goes away and we can think. To me, this poem expresses the beauty and relief of being free from the noise of the day and being able to think for yourself.
