Just Listen

I’m Thinking,
Thinking,
Is this real?
What am I perceiving?

I’m perceiving,
Perceiving,
Were they rude?
Am I just reacting?

I’m reacting,
Reacting,
Wait my turn?
I should start thinking.

About this poem

This poem was just written at 2:44am in a state of distraction from a panic attack. My perception mislead me, it sends me into shivering fits. Am I perceiving the the words and actions of those I love properly? Why do I react so quickly, especially when it is clear I’m wrong? The title, Just Listen, feels correct to me because I’ve always struggled with interrupting and emotional reaction to my perceptions. Told constantly “WOULD YOU JUST LISTEN?” Essentially the poem is my inner feedback loop of how I try to function in any sort seemingly real conflict, which ultimately drives me to madness.
