Death

Ever since I was born,
Death tried to take me.
I fought back at the age of three months old.
It had been trying to take me.
I kept my guard up against it.
It tried to take me at the ages of ten and eleven.
I fought it off again, but barely won.
It almost caught up with me.
I slipped its grasp once again.
I always had the strength to beat it.
Death had almost caught up with me a lot.
I somehow escape its grasp.
In the meantime, it will take those I love.
Death took my adoptive mother.
For that, I have not forgiven Death.
I will always keep up my guard against Death.
Death knows it would take me some day.
Only Death knows when my guard will be down.
When my guard is down, It will take me!!
Until then, I will always fight for my life.

About this poem

I wrote this poem for my Creative Writing class at my college, County College of Morris. It was during the spring time after my mother's passing away. I dedicated this poem to my adtoptive mother. Little did I know that my professor later on passed away.
