Talking with the Moon
Roberto Suárez Torres 1983 (New York)
"Oh jeweled-eye Moon large and bright,
like regal wings in their flight,
the dead, black skies pour no scare
while talking with you tonight.
The Sun asleep does not care,
nor awake Him shall I dare,
better He not lift His hand
and dim from me your face fair;
this way, silent is the land,
balmy in their still tents band,
and like in a mother's arms
shun peaceful, war void and bland.
Though, soon from sleep He will alarm
all drumbeaters of His farm,
sighing we part, they rearm
brave, straps on their mouths for charm."
