Postpartum

My tummy’s not flat
I didn’t bounce back
But that doesn’t mean
It shouldn’t be seen

Because

With a little help
From a bird and a bee
I grew a little baby

And that boy is my everlasting joy

So

My tummy’s not flat
I didn’t bounce back
But that doesn’t mean
It shouldn’t be seen

About this poem

This poem came to me at 1 am after nursing my 9 month old. I told myself I wanted to lose the baby weight by 12 months and the goal had weighted heavily upon me until this point. Creating this poem verbalized the love and gratefulness I carry for my body.

My love handles can so relate. I've weight trained for over 45 years and those bad boys just refuse to take a sabbatical. Excellent writing, Sarah. :-)

My girlfriend and I just had a baby, so this resonates with me and how she came back from a tough pregnancy to raise a beautiful 2 year old.
