The Answer

I asked her a question,
But she won’t stop answering
A simple question,
All I wanted was a straight yes or no,

I’m staring at her bulging eyes
Placed prominently,
On either side of her hooked nose,
That switches and jumps while she speaks
They become more noticeable,
With every puff of nonsense,
That comes out of her wrinkled lips,
Painted burgundy red,
Reminding me of my favourite pasta sauce,
My stomach grumbles,
Frustrated,

How can someone talk about something for so
Long!
Like my friend who seems to have an endless list of things to complain about,
Maybe I should introduce them,
Oh my god,
How is she still droning
On and on,
Can we move on now???
I need to ask another question,

I hear the clock ticking
Time grinding away,
The clock has gold around the edges,
Tacky,
Maybe she painted it herself,
With those spindly fingers,
The hands point to 5:20,
I should be upstairs,
Doing my homework.

She squawked “Do you understand now?”
And did not wait for me to answer
The she added in her croaky voice,
“I’m glad I could help”
