To heal from a heartbreak

To heal from a heartbreak

Pills, gin or vodka.
Pick your poison.
It really doesn’t matter, as long as it gets the job done.

Numb and dumb we take whatever is
left from our sorrow.

And we sulk
and we rush
And we frankly just follow apart.

Sometimes alone
sometimes with
a new

love?

About this poem

When I was 19 I had my heartbroken by a foreign military guy. In hopes of mend I left to Africa for a volunteer program and feel In love with my roommate. I would go back and forth from Peru to Africa to see him and eventually a series of events lead us to marry three years later and separated one year later. This poem is about how I coped with that first and last heartbreak and how I also avoided dealing with it.
