The Sea

The Sea
I thought of you the other day.
I wondered how you were.
It has been a couple of years since I have asked you how you have been.
I have seen the moon and I have seen the sun, they are the same ones
that I asked you about.
The sea of memories as I go back to long ago.
The messages that you had written, the conversations we used to have.
I can’t believe all that time we have been friends.
I remember the weird way that we met and all the laughs we had.
I know over the years you slipped away but will always be
In the sea of memories.
For all the memories you have given me,
Especially the ones that had escaped my mind.
Leaving me with the bits and pieces of who you were.
Imagining that you are the same person from yesterday.
Xerographically imprinting the memories where they belong.
Forgetting that you aren’t around anymore,
Understanding that this couldn’t possibly last forever.
Escaping to the sea of what I want to remember.
Not forgetting all the smiles that we both had.
The smile always comes back,
Even though it hurts to know nothing of you now
Soon hopefully the sea will allow you to see what I do.
