Father
We crawled across the cold black grass.
Towards the shed
Where power tools raged and the smell of sawdust perfumed the night air.
A single light bulb flashed
A hammer drummed a tuneless song
Through the window
A man alone at his work
A man we could not disturb
A man who often said
He could live like a king
If it werent for us
About this poem
A memory of childhood and an autocratic father.
