If I Only Had The Time

Summer came and went, Fall instilled.
Twenty nine I've seen from birth to now.
Many times my help he asked, not needed though,
the truth I could not see.
My mentor passed, experience of seventy two years.
Time lost, taken for granted.
Echoes heard, remembered, of things I should have learned.
Offers given, yet refused, ignorance, priorities misaligned.
Now it's my turn, a chance, redemption.
My legacy now fifteen.
Things will be different I tell myself.
As my mentor before, plea for help falls on deaf ears.
I hope, offers extended, rejected as I did.
The answer given, repeated,
IF I ONLY HAD THE TIME.

About this poem

About being too busy to learn from my father, and how it repeated itself with my daughter and myself.
