A Latent Light
Fidelis Peter Olowu 1982 (Agbarho Kingdom)
In every soul resides a latent light
Yet not all lights can themselves light
For every light needs a light
To help them light up their own latent light
No light loses its own light
When it gives light to another light
Else, light would be scarce at night
And no man would work nor walk at night
No light fights another light
Cause in the deep deadly dark night
Every light finds a space to shine bright
And help little latent lights to find light
For the more number of lights at night
The brighter the luminous light
And the farther away from the light
Darkness disappears into the dark night.
About this poem
In every human being, there is the potential to shine bright in life. This potential is what the poet refers to as "latent light" but this potential needs someone to either discover or help to polish it and give it a commercial value. Sometimes we never know how much people can do until we give them the chance, the privilege or the platform for them to express themselves and for every person we help to become successful in life we by extension help the people who that person will help later in life. So, when we have the opportunity to help people and we fail to do so, we deny not only that person but also many others a happy life. Interestingly, multiples of the emotions we sow into people's life turn around and come back to us later in life. No wonder the Bible tells us, "Be not deceived for God is not mocked, for what soever a man soweth that also shall he reap." You can never quantify the joy and happiness of having a lot of successful people coming to celebrate with you because you made them highly successful in life. The poet thus, tells us to derive joy in helping others to become more successful instead of fighting them just because they are into the same line of business or career with us. The beautifully rhymed poem retains the beautiful message the poet herein sends to mankind. Enjoy it. more »
