To My Children

Shaleigh Meiners 1991 (United States)

I have a few words of advice to my children,
Perhaps, one day; they may actually listen.

Never give up on anything,
You will actually achieve nothing.
Always be humble and kind,
Fore anger will always weigh heavily on your mind.
Always say I love you,
No one is promised tomorrow and that is true.
Learn to forgive but never forget.
This is one you'll forget every time, I bet.

I hope that you all hold these words near,
Because one day you will have children you hold dear.
You will spew the same words, Have the same fights.
And much like me, after their grown you'll miss the hectic nights.
The dirty dishes in the sink,
The cleaner the house...the more you think.

I will love you all indefinitely,
And maybe some day you will thank me.
For being so mean,
For being so cruel.
I did it all, out of my love for you.
