Analysis of La musique

Rene Francois Armand Prudhomme 1839 (Paris) – 1907 (Châtenay-Malabry)

Ah ! chante encore, chante, chante !
Mon âme a soif des bleus éthers.
Que cette caresse arrachante
En rompe les terrestres fers !

Que cette promesse infinie,
Que cet appel délicieux
Dans les longs flots de l'harmonie
L'enveloppe et l'emporte aux cieux !

Les bonheurs purs, les bonheurs libres
L'attirent dans l'or de ta voix,
Par mille douloureuses fibres
Qu'ils font tressaillir à la fois...

Elle espère, sentant sa chaîne
A l'unisson si fort vibrer,
Que la rupture en est prochaine
Et va soudain la délivrer !

La musique surnaturelle
Ouvre le paradis perdu...
Hélas ! Hélas ! il n'est par elle
Qu'en songe ouvert, jamais rendu.
