Analysis of Temptation

Tricia Tracey. 1991 (Canton)

Runaway and hide
I'm getting to overwhelmed
These feelings these emotions
Will I let them take me out

It's a mess up in my head
Words and thoughts they swirl about
I sabotage things good to me
I don't need anyone else around

My anger comes to surface
The rage begins to creep
Consuming my whole attitude
Do I take this drastic leap?

To step right off the mountain
But euphoric in the fall
Do I destroy myself again?
Ruin and lose it all

Go back to that old life
That calls me sweetly often
Temptation turns its cynical head
Do I have another option

Maybe instead I'll cut myself
It is better than getting high
Either way I lose though
Because I mask the pain inside

About this poem

I'm a recovery from substance use personally and from self-harm but that does not mean I still don't struggle writing helps. .. It's about learning how to cope with the pain today.
