Analysis of betrayed

He let his hands go where they didn’t belong
he said I wanted it "why else wear a thong"
So I pushed him back and said "enough"
Then his face changed and he got rough.

I woke up cold, naked, bruised and sore
slowly picked myself up from the floor.
My bra was snapped and my dress torn
and the guy I trusted had already gone.

I told a teacher what he had done
"it's normal for jocks and cheerleaders to have fun"
Then he said as he handed me a tissue
"now don't make a fuss, it's a private issue"

I went to my mother with tears in the eyes
wiping them away "there's not point to cry"'
"boys will be boys THEY are always wilful"
"YOU should know to just be more careful"

They all said its normal so I forgot about that
I was dropped from cheer squad when I got fat
and every morning and night I felt sick
then I decided to head to the clinic.

People with posters yelled "murderer, whore"
I didn’t know why as I went through the door.
I saw a nurse was crying and as I got closer
She rubbed her dress to regain her composure.

So I walked to reception and asked for aid
then with tears she said "they overturned ROE v Wade"
I narrowed my eyes, tilted my head confused
at 14 I didn't understand the term that she used.

About this poem

for the contest "violated" I wrote this poem when i heard that "Roe v Wade" was overturned in the USA. this poem shows that the act of violation is not acted out by only one person. in each stanza the subject is "betrayed" by someone else: 1st and 2nd a friend/boyfriend/respected peer 3rd a teacher 4th her closest family 5th her friends 6th the public as a whole 7th legislators
