Analysis of Extension of Life

Extension of Life
Arman Hoque

With praise and scorn,
And a battle well worn,
Humanity passed the threshold to creating life in AI.
We thought it was shocking, yet we’ve done it before;
We’ve wiped out whole species; created and influenced so many more.

We’ve changed the lay of the land;
In a way flora and fauna don’t understand.
Either that or we remain at a risk much too high.
Too close to disaster to let our consequence pass by.

What is our global foot print?
What does our impact mean?
Humanity has been on earth for a wink,
Close humanity’s eyes the world wouldn’t blink ;
Yet our legacy imparts were no passing stint;
We’ve created impacts remaining to be seen.

We’ve wiped out species and created others to feed us.
We’ve created AI with precaution so they need us.
AI isn’t one organism,
But a network - a hive.
Built on tiny pieces, collectively they thrive.

Built for a purpose, many species have purpose fulfilled;
And on a consequently risky quest science has since instilled.
We’ve created intelligence - is that the definition of life?
Have we played as god on the edge of a knife?

What rights do our creations have for sure?
What plights and miseries must our creations in time endure?

Without the limitation of time, our legacy lasts beyond rhythm and rhyme.
AI is humanity’s enduring footprint.
If the world were pure, for sure we are a tint.
And We’re just starting to unlock AI’s blueprint.
