Analysis of Fire

Ronald Bunch 1982 (Grand Rapids)

Climbing over soaring birds.
Exultant views I see and words.

But now I feel a raging fire.
It smells like a burning fire.

I climb the fire truck ladder.
I hear screams then feel sadder.

I reach out to help
And I see a burning woman's scalp.

The fire hose saved her
And everything's a blur.

We climbed down the ladder.
Now I'm not sadder.
