Analysis of My Dear Soul
Please forgive me, my dear soul
I have tortured and hurt you again
I feel your weeping, my dear soul
An unreachable pain from within.
You’re a good one, my dear soul
You’ve stayed with me, in spite of it all
Each time you warned me, my dear soul
Then you held on, for the inevitable fall.
We will get over this, my dear soul
We will survive and love anew.
We are in this together, my dear soul
And I promise to take better care of you.

About this poem
I was in a bad place. Only a few days earlier I had plunged into the dark world of depression and anxiety. There was so much pain. It felt like a plug had been pulled out of the bottom of my chest and my soul had been allowed to drain out onto the floor. I felt like it was my fault for allowing her to get under my skin, leading to the maltreatment of my soul.
