Analysis of Walls

Lerato Mbokane 2005 (Leslie)

Brick on brick plastered with cement
Row by row ,
I've built these walls
that have created a garment
For my bleeding hands.
Hear me oh walls , when shall you speak ?
I know you listen to my sad songs and sobs ,
Feel my touches and punches ,
Hear my chuckles and laughs,
my chest and throat tightening in response.
An armor - you have become.
Whilst I lay here and smile at my discomfort and delicately brush my fingers against my
creation , my nightmare.
You shake and rumble
As I start to release a cackle
That burns my mouth and tongue ,
Crack my muscles and break my teeth.
These rows of bricks have tumbled upon me and hugged my body tightly.
Dents have ected themselves on my face and hands .
A lonely smile creeps on my face with my eyes wide open , I've heard you , my masterpiece.
Row by row ,
I've built these walls.
