Analysis of ADAH

I am Adah. The bald headed black African child.
First born girl child of Aguala, the village palm wine tapper.
Mama was nothing more than a village trader.

I am Adah. The eldest of three children.
My Papa and Mama were not wealthy like the big chiefs in the village.
They needed help.
"My parents need more help. My siblings are young. I must do something." I thought.
Then I made the decision.

I am Adah. The adult child.
As a worker for my parents I was bound to be exposed.
In the hustle and bustle of the struggle, I met him.
The wolf garbed in sheep's clothing who lured me to it.

I am Adah. The one who suffered.
Taken away from my parents through trickery, I was sold as a slave.
Eventually his true self became revealed.
But it was too late as I was shipped off to an unknown.

I am Adah. The survivor.
I was beaten and starved.
But the determination to survive fueled my escape plan.
For months and months, I planned for the great run.
When the time came I seized the opportunity.

I am Adah. The lion hearted black girl.
My owner left that faithful day, leaving my restraints unlocked.
I didn't wait to ponder if maybe this was a trick to test my obedience.
Leaving the bane of my nightmares, I had no regrets.
I ran with adrenaline and determination pumping in my veins.
Freedom was intoxicating and I basked in that feeling.
For I am Adah and I am free.
