Analysis of A poet's letter to his love
Amuta Sunday Amuta 1987 (Benue)
My heart - a lair for your love
like the candy love
in immaculate breath of morning air
kissing roses of the earth.
Let your heart steadily flare upon my breath
and you shall sink into a joy
as to a groove at the luscious Nile green.
Sweet renditions from my heart
at each moment will stately drip
across your heed and you shall again
remember the last stanza of your mother's lullaby laying you in sleep at infancy.
Thick cloud may roll across the sky
from the northern horizon towards this south with furious gale hauling things on its wings and you may accuse the trees' branches of grooving to the beat of this baneful wind raging against your head
But here's my arms - a straw of reliance peace and the warmth of my pulse
as to a warm wool to ward your soul against the glaring life's perplexity standing tall.
Winter is near.
A notion of snow to slide you into its comfortless freeze and your blood to chill in the stillness of those snowy days tugging you numb
But look yonder
I will be the sunshine stretching out to hug flesh, veins
and your face to lush in gracious smile
like the ancient beauty of purple petals
culminating moments of grieves
And when you grow old,
in hundred and two springtime
I will perhaps have counted the feat of my clock's pendulum on the wall
And when my soul surfs with the gentle breeze in that willow
weep not over me at the lips of this dust
for in solitude will my soul smile heavenwards and recounting your life's palliate in my care.
