Analysis of As If A Switch Flipped
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
As if a switch flipped.
To take for granted.
Will turn on and off lights.
Whenever one wishes to do this.
Without giving a thought to it.
However...
When the fuse blows,
Leaving the lights...
And everything connected,
To that dependable fuse goes out.
So do the feelings,
Of those stop to rejuvenate or replace...
What has been wasted to take for granted.
With this to know to let go,
Of being flipped back and forth.
As if easy to do to be used without thought,
From where the fuse is connected.
Expected to be turned off and on.
To neglect and disrespect the power it has.
'Why is it that you act so cold?'
'It's not an act.
I just got tired of having it believed,
I am reliable to remain on and available.
Even when I am turned off,
By the doing of it!'
'What do you mean?'
'I don't expect you to understand.'
