Analysis of Try
Matthew Thornbury 1974 (Lansing, MI)
You will never know the way I know.
You will never hope the way I do.
I can yell louder.
I can run faster.
I can out do all the others.
I Am the bulls horns!
Like a building crumbling to the ground, I fall.
All parts are with me, but seem to have stopped
working.
But this will not budge my soul an inch.
For I am up again, only to go down again.
But as long as I keep trying...

About this poem
I wrote this poem when I was homeless on the streets in Lansing, Michigan. I was a lost but hopeful 18 year old. Later I had submitted this poem on poetry.com in 2000. The poem was published in a book of different poets by poetry.com. Today, the website has seemed to change and no poems by Matthew Thornbury appear here. So here it is again, guys. A poem about not giving up. This was a time in my life(one of many)when giving up seemed to be the only choice I was good at. more »
