Analysis of Moonbeams

A wise man once said, you’ll regret far more
All the things that you’ve never ventured before
Than all of the things in the world you could lose
If you trusted your heart and the paths that you choose

I never believed that fool till the day
I neglected my heart for fear of the pain
That aching; it came so consistently, surely
I could schedule your leaving me three months, two weeks early

The nights I’ve spent waiting, my hopes for a change
Of heart from my love, or of change in my brain
I’m sure you didn’t know, just how low
Just how broken
I was until words heard beautifully spoken
I was when you reached out
You called me and said
“Cute boy why so lonely?
And eyes why so dead?

You could have all that you wanted if only
You could love someone better
And leave me here lonely”

Perhaps humors recourse used far times too many
Had hurt my perception and chances, had I any
Notes of blue aura and warmth all encompassing
With the scent of a land east of here, west of Tuscany
Had narrowed my judgement, made more narrow still
That when you said wait for me I told you I will

And perhaps even further, as I dwell on at length
I could have been bolder and braver I think
I’ve hidden all texture of flesh unappealing
And rehearsed my eyes to devoid of feeling
My words wrapped in cellophane silvery stanzas
Breaking in knowing what your words demand of
A request I could never in happiness pursue
To be the better side of half of you
