Analysis of The Creative Soul of My Beloved

My Dear Doe-Doe, My Beloved:
With excitement …
Like a schoolgirl learning to read
for the very first time,

and for the next time;
and ever continuously,
you discover the treasures,
of this earthly planet.

and all the beautiful things
that dwell therein:
Children, mothers, fathers;
brothers and sisters.

aunts and uncles.
And cousins galore;
And the many grandparents,
who’ve come before.

You’ve nurtured all of them.
And you’ve fashioned them;
Each day, each moment of your life,
you continue to shine your bright light;

upon all, and make them sparkle.
You mold them, even comfort them,
with such wonderful joy;
with great excitement —

to make them blossom like
a new creation.
With tender loving care,
a pocketful of miracles;

sallies from your active mind …
from your fertile imagination.
And all who cross your path,
All who have been raised up;

by your bounteous generosity,
rejoice, sing hymns of praises,
in your sharing with them —
even for a moment,

the brightness,
the radiance of your rapture;
with which you embrace all,
on your glowing stage of kindness.

About this poem

This poem, “The Creative Soul of My Beloved,” written on June 26, 1979, is dedicated to my beloved, my Sgaw-Karen Burmese wife, Florence Pu, whom I charmingly and intimately address as “Doe-Doe,” her pet name. Intellectually curious and inquisitive by nature, she is always elevating and ennobling others with a lot of class and style. Of a humanitarian spirit, she shines a spotlight of tender loving care on all she encounters.
