Analysis of Her Puppet
I dream a dream.
A dream of you.
A life I cherished from my womb.
A child of mine.
So loved you were.
In my arms you did not stir.
Until that day.
That dreadful day.
He married a woman who said you would not stay.
You two are the puppets and she is your master.
My heart is breaking as if made of plaster.
You did not wish me to be your mommy.
Away from me you wanted to be.
I miss you more than you’ll truly know.
I wish I was there to watch you grow.
From my arms you were taken.
Only time will tell you that she was horribly mistaken.
My heart is missing several large pieces.
They’re all with you, one for all the seasons.
Reminding you of me while I’m not there.
Until you grow up and remember to care.
The rest of me is numb, traveling aimlessly.
Until the universe decides one day to send you back to me.
None of this is your fault.
You were 7, it’s what you were taught.
I dream a dream.
A dream of you.
A life I cherished from my womb.

About this poem
This poem is about the loss of a child who is very much alive but still out of her reach. A child who has been manipulated and taken, and a mother who fights to make it through every day only to wake up and grieve some more.
