Analysis of To Quiet the Clockwork of my Mind

As clockwork gears my mind races ever on,
endlessly pondering what has yet to come.
These thoughts often believed ludicrous by some.
Ideas and plans night and day rage through my head.
I'm unable to stop them, even when I take to my bed.
So many mental musings moving to and fro,
they blow through my mind as the blinding snow.
As i tirelessly toil to turn off my mind,
there is no clear solution that I can find.
All the usual methods, and some unconventional,
afford me no rest, though they've tried their best.
I try and I try, yet it's all in vain,
so I turned to alcohol to settle my brain.
At first A MIRACLE!  My mind put to sleep,
at least for a while I'd found sweet release.
Soon,  more and still more was needed to achieve to same respite,
ultimately leaving my at quite a deficit.
The clockwork of my mind proved stronger than the elixir,
Requiring me to imbibe ever swifter.
The demand, at the time, far outweighed the cost,
until I had realized just how much I had lost.
No longer drinking just to quiet my head
I finally realized it was noisier instead.
Then came the trouble,  the bill had come due,
without any warning, Oh I never knew!
The damage had been done, there was no turning back,
everything had gone wrong, short of a heart attack.
So away to the hospital, swifter than eagles I flew,
to discover what ailed me was something quite new.
Organs were failing, my body shutting down,
so the doctor told me, his face set in a frown.
Surgery would be needed, which I might not survive,
All because I chose to imbibe.
This demon called alcohol, at first, a dear friend,
nearly killed me three times.
Now our friendship is at an end.
