Analysis of Of And From A Mongrel Heritage
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
'Stop?
Stop, why?'
Over there,
On one side...
Of a debating in protest line.
Are those claiming themselves to be,
Victims of a threatening diversity.
'Oh them?
The chosen power brokers?'
And check them out.
More of them,
Have ancestors born...
With diverse ethnic identities.
Open wide your lieing eyes.
And see it for what it is too believe.
'I don't get it.'
Me either.
Now...
Listen to the ones on the other side.
Screaming and yelling to claim,
They too are feeling threatened.
'Threatened?
Threatened by what?'
An ignorance they fear,
Has begun...
To ruin their way of life!
'Hold on.
With my lieing eyes,
Now opened as wide as possible.
On both sides,
Are Black, White, Hispanic, Latino...
Or whatever today their preference.
Along with Asian and...
Native American Indian.'
What else do you notice?
'Some of them,
I can not tell what race they are.'
They are Mulattos!
Mixed.
And...
Check this out,
Both sides are claiming themselves to be...
Greater than all others.
'All others...
Of what?'
Races!
And not one of them is a 'thoroughbred'.
Not in these United States.
Jupiter, Mars or anywhere else.
'Apparently...
That has not been revealed.'
Really? You think so?
'All of that 'mixture'...
Makes the United States a great place.'
All of that 'mixture'...
Made the United States a great place.
But these days I suspect,
Someone...
Has been drugging up the coolaid.
And adding their own blend to the mix.
'Why do you say that?'
Let's go.
If you can't see that now?
You never will.
'See what?
A bunch of crazy ignorant people?
Yelling back and forth?
What's so unusual about that?
However...
What I did not notice before,
Are the clothes the people are wearing.
And...
Should I be impressed by that?'
Hmmm...
I didn't even notice it!
'And you tell me,
To open wide my living eyes!
That's the first thing I noticed.
I know one thing...
If I am going to protest,
In public like that?
At least I am going to dress appropriately!
I mean...
If anyone has a message to sell?
They've got to dress the part.'
Especially,
Doing it publicly.
And all mixed up like that.
What statement is that to be made?
'Boring.
No sense of style or fashion!
And people wonder why...
There is conflict,
Division and racism all over the place.
I'm glad you told me to stop,
And look at that tired mess.'
There are some things in life,
More important!
'That's what I'm saying.
And...
With my 'lieing' eyes now opened wide,
Apparently those protesting...
Have no idea,
How to attract to themselves...
Media attention.
They have got to be...
Comfort zone living isolated suburbanites!
